After this three months and this incredible experience in wich I have meet lot of amazing people do lots of interesting projects and make lots of new experiences,i have to go back to spain with lots of new memories and wanting to repeat this kind of experience. During these three months having the opportunity to work with such incredible people as Martina, Davide, Eleonora or Silvia was incredible, also having the opportunity to meet some of the boys and have a good time with them doing activities and laughing has been unbeatable. Also the fact of having the opportunity to have Giovanni show us some of the incredible places in this city some of its customs and some of its most typical foods so from here I thank him again for those good times. So to finish this I have to thank all those who in some way have been part of this great experience for giving me such a warm welcome, treating me so well during these three months, making me feel so comfortable and making me want to return so...

Play an Active Role

Sei mesi ... in 8 intensi minuti: buona visione! My first role in the association was, basically, to find my space. Meet users, understand their concerns and learn the basics of Italian. During the first 2/3 weeks I was, mostly, tacking part of the meetings of European projects, helping in the arts activities organized by other volunteers and office work, which was to write a blog, attend online Italian lessons and write some document. Later, Carlo asked for my collaboration in his History and Geography activity in which I was looking for photos, maps and graphic information to complement his classes and help him during the pres...

Arrivederci Sergio!

CARNIVAL

Hello everyone! Its been a few months really busy around here, all the preparation for the carnival, european projects etc... Carnival preparations were really dynamic and funny, we made two wheels next to the guys from the orestano's school. Two biiiiig wheels like sicilians carriages. Also a barrel, its was hard to do really, Im not really skilled with this deco stuff nither to the art so I had to gave all from myself with it. Three or for oranges, several lemons, four canoli.... The associaton symbol (two puzzle pieces) and we finished! But we still had to make our costumes so, with the helpful hands of the EDUCOM people, we painted puzzel pieces for everyone. Each of them were different. Then the carnival, funny, interesting, and tired! So much dance, singing, laughing, walking... playing with confetti and foam. Great time despite the damm coronavirus.

Ricominciamo

Here we go again! I hope all you had a great Christmas time. I had such an interesting holidays: Elena, my mentor, invited me to have dinner with her family at christmas eve. The night was truly great, we play cucu and tombola, we ate a lot, we laught a lot... They gave me even a present! A beautiful skarp. Next day, Vincenzo invited me to have lunch at Piana degli Albanesi also with his family. I like to spend time with him, he is really nice and I enjoy speaking with him so much. His family was warm and open, there was a little baby that was running around, laughin and screaming! He was really funny. There i met the most beautiful girl that ive ever seen, but I'm really shy and i coudn't say nothing to her. Life is life. On 26th my mother cames to visit me. We walked around the city, we visited the cathedral, the orto-botanic, and so on... Also we went to vincenzo's house to have dinner, and to Flaviana's house to a party! On 1th of jaunary we travelled to C...

natale

So sooo Christmas time! I have to say that I'm not a fan of this period of the year, it remember me some bad moments, also the best moments that I had and I know they will not come again. This makes me feel really sad, I only want to be alone, in my safe space, without anyone saying me that I should be happy becouse christmas is about joyness and family. Well, taking a part this side of the story, HOLYDAYS! I'm really lookig forward it, time to realx, to disconect. My mother is comming to Palermo and I'm preparing a tour for her. And the 2th of January I'm travelling to Russia! I wish to all of you good christmas time! BUON NATALE

life still rolling

I should write more often, i know, just the words doesn't come out of my mind. Today I'll speak about an important think that I have to decide, and maybe write it may help. Since i was 9 wanted to enroll the navy, that is being the mainstay of my live for a long time. It was the only think that makes my wake up in the morning. But for 2 years I've been procrastinating it and I dont know what does it means. Meanwhile I've descovered a really nice world, the leather crafting world. But then a lot of questions comes to my mind, I really like crafting leather, I really want to go to the navy, but what to do... who knows. I hope this months hear helps me to decide. this is something that i made

Changing weather

So, the weather is changing. We came from the sticky hot to the unexpected cold and the sudden rains. Palermo looks beautiful under the water, the sound, the reflection of the lights on the puddles... I was walking through the street wile going to fencing the other day when started to rain, I almost have to swim, I soaked to the bones and I had to buy some socks and an umbrella. I truly love the feeling of the rain falling up my head, is relaxing. Don’t hear anything but the sound of the rain hitting the floor, wonderful. I feel really good at the fencing club, sometimes I think that I am the “foreign fella who knows bad words in Italian” but step by step they know me better. I can notice the lack of physical condition that makes me look and play than a newcomer in fencing, but I will come back! I’m integrated in the association, even when I have sometimes arguments with some users, I think that is because the language barrier, sometimes I don’t know how to explain what I w...

25 days here

25 days here, and I truly love Palermo. The small streets up and down, the old buildings, the streets shops, the people the food... I'm adapting  more or less fine to this city, to the time of life, the busy atmosphere. Probably what im carrying the worst is the food, I'm living by eating pasta, sausages and salad. I should start eating healthier but i just dont know what to buy! Any help pls? I bought an armchair for my room! I feel weird about that, buying an armchair, a knife, some tuppers...  I'm getting older... The work in the association is really funny, day by day i can speak more with the guys. cefalu dfadffdd

11 days in palermo already!

It's being a really interesting experience until now. Some European+ partners came to speak about future projects and it mades me think about a few things, as, for example, how much would I like to keep doing this projects in the future an how much I´m interested in running my own projects. That opens me a big, scary and exciting path! At the association we have done an origami activity, paintig, french lesson and a theater activity runned by me. The activity was being a headeche for me thanks to my insecurities but it was really good in the end! Speaking about my free time, I've joined a fencing club, really full of people, where I feel really confortable. The master, Massimo, is Davide's friend and is truly nice. Also I walked through Via Macheda, Via Rome, Vucciria, Ballerò etc... At Ballerò I met a friendly man which is a leather artisan, We spoke like.... 30 minutes easily, as I´m starting to be also a leather artisan he gave me some advices and contacts to buy s...

Spanish volunteer

Ciao a tutti! This is Sergio writting today, I'm a spanish volunteer who is really excited to be in Palermo. Back in Spain I take part in a Down Syndrom association for 6 years already, I met Martina one year and a half ago and since then I been looking forward to come here. As I said, I'm excited but also afraid and nervous. Afraid becouse of the lenguaje barrier, It's really annoying to dont be able to comunicate or to underestand what the people say to me, even going to the shop is an adventure! But is nice to discover a brand new lenguaje. I'm also afraid of my own expectations, about what im going to do, the quality of my work, if the users will accept me, if I'm not doing enough, if I'm doing so much, if I have to envolve myself more or even less... But I'm sure that day by day this feelings will be calming down. Today is my 4th day here, 4? really? time flies away.... With this first post I just wanted to share with you how do I feel, next ones ...
